With another less important(?) match between England and Australia later this week, we’re all eagerly awaiting the final between Jamie Gunbrell and Rachel Gee this morning.
Jamie has had an easier journey through the competition this week, losing only one game in the Knock Out phase to Jayne Stevens (England) out of a total of 11 games.
Rachel also lost only one game to the AC Women’s world champion Debbie Lines (England), but had a more difficult task coming up against the number 1 seed in the semi-final.
This was an enthralling match with Rachel winning the first two games, but Soha Moustafa (Egypt) came back to level the match at two games apiece.
The final game was a nip and tuck one, with Soha gaining the advantage at hoop 11, leading 6:5, however she missed a long hoop possibility and eventually Rachel scored to level the match.
The deciding hoop was quite a ding dong, with Soha taking good position first, however Rachel nestled her first ball in the hoop from the back (deliberately?). This prevented Soha from scoring and after much toing and froing Rachel took her opportunity with a longish jump shot to come back from the dead and win after 6 hours play.
