The final 2 rounds of the block stage followed by the cut between Qualifying and Plate events took until lunchtime. There were some upsets - neither Ellen Nielsen nor Christina Rice made the cut, whereas Liz Drury and, even more so, Beryl Hughes, outperformed to take the final 2 places.

In the afternoon, 4 rounds of both Plate and Qualifying blocks were scheduled and played, despite some lengthy games causing a long delay to later opponents, and play continued until about 1900. At that point an on-form Paz Gonzales de Aguilar had 4/4 wins (having dropped only 2 games over the whole 2 days play). 

Tomorrow sees the final 5 rounds of both events. The good thing is that all Plate players have committed to staying in the competition, something that doesn't always happen.

With rain and high winds forecast for tomorrow, playing conditions may not be as pleasant as they were today.
